What Is the ERSU Messina Scholarship 2026/2027?
The ERSU Messina scholarship 2026/2027 — officially the "Bando di Concorso per l'attribuzione di borse di studio, altri contributi economici e servizi, per il diritto allo studio universitario" — is the main financial aid package available to students enrolled at the University of Messina and the "A. Corelli" Conservatory. E.R.S.U. (Ente Regionale per il diritto allo Studio Universitario), established under L.R. n. 20/2002, administers these benefits on behalf of the Sicilian Region, with co-funding from the national Fondo Integrativo Statale (FIS) and the regional study tax.
For international students admitted to the University of Messina's English-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Prosthodontics, or Veterinary Medicine programmes, this scholarship can cover a large share of annual living costs. The ERSU Messina scholarship 2026 package includes cash, subsidised housing, free meals, a regional tax rebate, and support for graduating students.
A "fuori sede" student with ISEE below €11,250 can receive up to €8,246.78 in cash per year — plus subsidised housing, free daily meals, and a full regional tax refund.

Medicine, Dentistry & Veterinary Students
Students immatricolating in A.A. 2026/2027 to Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Prosthodontics, or Veterinary Medicine at the University of Messina — including those subject to the "semestre filtro" — are explicitly admitted to submit their benefits application within the ordinary deadlines set by Art. 20. Students who complete the propedeutico period at a different Ateneo and enrol at Messina only in the second semester will be covered by a dedicated addendum, published later.

ERSU Messina Scholarship 2026/2027 Amounts: How Much Can You Get?
The ERSU Messina scholarship amount depends on your housing status (in sede, pendolare, or fuori sede/indipendente) and your ISEE bracket. Winners who use ERSU housing or meal services gratuitously have the corresponding value deducted from their cash payout — the benefit isn't lost, it's simply delivered in kind.

Bonus Increases & Reductions

Scholarship winners who complete their degree within the legal course duration receive a graduation bonus equal to 50% of their last scholarship amount. Applications open 1–30 April 2027; the final ranking is published 25 June 2027. It can only be claimed once per academic career (not for both a bachelor's and a connected master's).
In Sede, Pendolare, or Fuori Sede?
Your housing classification determines your ERSU Messina scholarship bracket. The gap between "in sede" and "fuori sede" is close to €4,300 per year at the base rate — getting this right, and documenting it properly, is critical.

Residents of the comune where the course is held, or the surrounding area listed in the bando's official table (e.g. Messina, Noto, Priolo).

info Documentation Matters — the "Dichiarazione di Locazione"
To be recognized as "fuori sede" without an ERSU housing placement, you must first attempt to obtain a posto letto and, if unsuccessful, submit a dichiarazione di locazione between 16 October 2026 and 8 January 2027, backed by a registered rental contract covering at least 10 months (1 September 2026 – 31 October 2027). Miss the 8 January 2027 deadline without uploading the contract, and you are automatically reclassified as "pendolare."
Students who obtain an ERSU posto letto and accept it are automatically classified fuori sede, with the housing quota deducted from the cash payout since the room is provided free of charge.
ISEE Requirements for ERSU Messina 2026/2027
To qualify for the ERSU Messina scholarship, your family's ISEE must be below €22,500 and your ISPE (patrimony indicator) must be below €53,000. You must hold a specific ISEE for university study purposes ("prestazioni per il diritto allo studio universitario") — a generic ISEE is not accepted.

Scoring within the limit uses the formula: 100 × (1 − ISEE dichiarato / ISEE limite). For first-year students, this is the sole ranking criterion (ties broken first by ascending ISPE, then by ascending age).
tips_and_updates The DSU and ISEE Timeline
The Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica (DSU) can be filed with INPS, your comune, a CAF, or directly at ERSU Messina (free of charge). If you haven't received your ISEE five days before the application deadline, you can enter your DSU protocol number instead. International students must upload their parified ISEEU/ISPEU (calculated by an authorized CAF from the list in the bando's appendix) to the "Fascicolo" by 16 September 2026 — or by 30 November 2026 if genuinely unavailable, though this places you at the bottom of your ranking.
Academic Credit Requirements
First-Year Students
If you're a matricola (first-year), your ranking at award stage is based purely on ISEE — no credits are required upfront. But credits determine how much of your scholarship you actually keep:

Note: students with disability (L. 104/92, ≥66% invalidity, or DSA) have a reduced threshold of 9 CFU by 10 August 2027 and 12 CFU by 30 November 2027. Exact CFU thresholds for each degree course and year are published in Tables 5.1–5.4 of the official bando's appendix.
Upper-Year Students
Students enrolled in years 2+ must already hold a minimum number of CFU (registered by 10 August 2026) at the time of application — generally proportional to 60 CFU per completed year, adjusted for course-specific credit distributions. A "bonus" credit system lets you bridge small gaps: up to 5 CFU for year 2, 12 for year 3, and 15 from year 4 onward (reduced to 3/7/9 for students with disability). The bonus must be requested during your application and is used only to establish eligibility — your ranking score is still calculated on real credits earned. Specialization and PhD students follow the merit rules of their own ordinamento didattico, with no "fuori corso" allowance.
ERSU Messina University Housing & Canteen Services
ERSU Messina manages and convenzionates student residences across the city, including the Papardo, Annunziata and Gravitelli residences, Hotel Liberty, UNICAMPUS, Ellegi Housing, and several other private structures under agreement. Housing costs are deducted directly from your scholarship — it isn't an additional expense stacked on top of your grant.

apartment How Housing Is Allocated
Posti letto are split 1/5 to first-year students and 4/5 to upper-year students, with up to 5% reserved for disabled students, residents of Sicily's minor islands (≥5 years), international students from particularly poor countries or political refugees, and orphaned/unaccompanied students. Check-in requires a medical certificate (issued within 15 days), proof of deposit and retta payment, and — for extracomunitari — a valid residence permit. Daily check-in via the "ERSUMESSINA" app is mandatory; more than 7 unjustified absent days triggers revocation.
ERSU Messina Scholarship 2026/2027: Payment Schedule
Once your application is approved and you appear in the final rankings, your scholarship is paid in installments linked to enrollment and credit milestones. Payments go exclusively to a bank/postal account or prepaid card with an IBAN in your own name (or jointly held) — postal libretti and direct cash quietance are not accepted.

International students can apply for the ERSU Messina scholarship — but the login method and income documentation differ depending on your residence status and country of origin. Getting this right early avoids being placed at the bottom of your ranking.
Portal Access
tips_and_updates Start the Document Process Early
Gathering certified income documents from your home country, translating and legalizing them, can take weeks. Students from countries in active conflict who cannot obtain full documentation should contact ERSU directly to discuss the acceptable alternatives. Don't wait until August to start.
warning A Personal PEC Is Required
Every student must hold a personal PEC (Posta Elettronica Certificata), which becomes ERSU's official digital domicile for all communications. Extracomunitario students must obtain a PEC at the latest by the time payments are issued.

Do I need to be enrolled before applying? expand_more
No. You can apply before finalizing your university enrollment — this explicitly includes students awaiting immatricolazione to Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine. Enrollment and payment of the regional study tax must be completed by 21 April 2027, or you'll be excluded from the rankings.
Can I apply if I'm transferring from another Italian university? expand_more
Yes. Students who transfer course or faculty with exam validation ("convalida esami") are ranked at the net year of their carriera, provided they haven't already received benefits for that year of course elsewhere. If you transfer after rankings are published, you'll be placed at the bottom of the new course's ranking as "idoneo non beneficiario."
Is the ERSU scholarship compatible with other scholarships or Erasmus? expand_more
ERSU scholarships are incompatible with other public/private scholarships and paid university tutoring collaborations for A.A. 2026/2027, though tutoring/didactic-integration assignments under DM 1047/2017 art. 3 c.2 are exempt. Students entitled to both types of benefit can request a "conguaglio" — a top-up covering the difference between the two amounts. Housing service is likewise incompatible with equivalent housing from other public bodies (e.g. INPS).
What if I don't meet the credit requirement as a first-year student? expand_more
First-year winners need 15 CFU by 10 August 2027 and 20 CFU by 30 November 2027 to receive the full saldo. Reaching only 20 CFU by 30 November 2027 keeps the first two installments and consumed meals, but forfeits the saldo and requires paying 50% of any assigned posto letto. Failing to reach even 20 CFU by 30 November 2027 means the scholarship, housing and meal benefits must be repaid in full.
How do I communicate with ERSU Messina? expand_more
All official communications happen through the online ticketing system on the "ersuonline" portal (studenti.ersumessina.it), during public office hours (Tue & Thu 10:30–12:30, Wed 15:30–17:30). The Ufficio Concorsi e Benefici can also be reached by phone at 090.3718611/622/630/625/637. The publication of rankings on the ERSU website itself constitutes legal notification — no separate communication is sent to your home address.
What is the "bonus" credit system? expand_more
The bonus is a pool of additional "virtual" credits added to your real CFU count to reach the minimum eligibility threshold. It grows over time: up to 5 CFU from year 2, 12 from year 3, and 15 from year 4 onward (reduced to 3/7/9 for students with disability). It can be used once, is not cumulative, and any unused portion carries forward. Your ranking score is still calculated using only real credits earned — the bonus affects eligibility, not your position in the ranking.
