Your score vs real cut-offs

Which universities would you have reached?

Compared with the final 2025 EU cut-offs (round 7), plus 2024 and 2023 for context.

Cut-offs are the lowest score admitted in the final ranking round of each year. They move every year with paper difficulty and competition, so treat this as a guide, not a guarantee. See every year's IMAT thresholds →

How the IMAT is scored

60 questions, 100 minutes, 5 subjects.

Biology carries the most weight. Every subject counts equally per question, so your IMAT score depends on how many you get right, and how many guesses go wrong.

15Chemistry
13Maths & Physics
5Logical reasoning
4General knowledge

The marking scheme

  • +1.5for every correct answer
  • −0.4for every incorrect answer
  • 0for every question left blank

How rankings work

  • EU applicantsOne national ranking. If your first choice is full, you can move into your other preferences as places free up over several ranking rounds.
  • Non-EU applicantsA separate ranking for each university, and you compete for one university only, the one you chose.
IMAT score questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum IMAT score?

90 points. That means answering all 60 questions correctly (60 × 1.5).

How does negative marking work on the IMAT?

Every incorrect answer costs 0.4 points, and a blank costs nothing. A wrong guess is roughly a quarter of a correct answer, so guessing only pays off when you can rule out some of the options.

Is the IMAT taken online or in person?

In person, on paper, at an official test centre in Italy or abroad.

What happens if two candidates have the same IMAT score?

The tie is broken by sub-scores in this order: Biology, Chemistry, Maths & Physics, Logical reasoning, then General knowledge. If they are still tied, the younger candidate ranks higher.

Does reaching last year's cut-off guarantee a place?

No. Cut-offs change every year, and the final number only settles after several ranking rounds. Use past cut-offs to set a target with a safety margin, not as a promise.
