What Is the UNIMI Milan DSU Scholarship 2026/2027?
The UNIMI Milan DSU scholarship 2026/2027 — officially the regional "Borsa di Studio per il diritto allo studio universitario" — is the main financial aid package for students enrolled at the Università degli Studi di Milano, widely known as "La Statale." It's financed jointly by Regione Lombardia and the MUR (Ministry of University and Research), and is not awarded for merit alone or income alone — you need to meet both requirements together, plus academic regularity.
One detail matters directly for prospective medical students: the bando explicitly covers the "semestre aperto" pathway for the single-cycle master's degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Veterinary Medicine. Students on this track can apply for the scholarship from 10 July to 30 September 2026, even before their enrolment for A.A. 2026/27 is finalised.
A "fuori sede" student in the lowest income bracket can receive up to €8,248 in cash and free meals per year — rising to €8,606.40 for female students in STEM courses — plus a full exemption from the second university fee installment.

Who Can Apply for the UNIMI Milan DSU Scholarship 2026/2027?
You can participate in the concorso if you are enrolled — or intend to enrol — full-time for A.A. 2026/27 in one of the course types below at the Università degli Studi di Milano. Both Italian and international students in possession of the merit and economic requirements can apply.

Medicine, Dentistry & Veterinary Medicine: Semestre Aperto Students
Students who enrol in the semestre aperto for the single-cycle master's degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, or Veterinary Medicine can submit the Scholarship application between 10 July and 30 September 2026, even if not yet enrolled at UNIMI for A.A. 2026/27. They're placed in a separate "Borsa del secondo semestre" ranking, and the benefit is only granted once they successfully enrol in the second semester.

UNIMI Scholarship 2026/2027 Amounts: How Much Can You Get?
The UNIMI Milan DSU scholarship amount depends on your income bracket (Art. 6.1) and your housing status — in sede, pendolare, or fuori sede (Art. 6.2). Every figure below already includes the value of the free daily meal.

Both idonei and beneficiari of the regional Borsa di Studio are exempt from paying the second (2ª) instalment of university fees. Partial beneficiaries — students in their first fuori corso year, or first-year students who reach the merit requirement late (between 10 August and 30 November 2027) — receive a 50% exemption instead. Note that the scholarship itself is exempt from income tax, though a Certificazione Unica (CU) is still issued.
In Sede, Pendolare, or Fuori Sede?
Your housing classification drives most of the gap in your final scholarship amount — roughly €4,818 per year separates "in sede" from "fuori sede" in the lowest income bracket. Travel time is measured door-to-door by public transport only (walking or private vehicle times don't count), using UNIMI's official "Tabella tempi di percorrenza."

Family residence up to 60 minutes from the course site by public transport. Online-course students and detainees are always classed in sede.

info Documentation Matters — the Rental Contract
To be recognised as fuori sede, you need a registered rental contract (or a collective-structure certification) covering at least 10 months of the academic year (September 2026 to September 2027), uploaded by 16 November 2026. Students admitted to laurea magistrale, PhD or specializzazione after the definitive ranking can submit it later, but no later than 31 January 2027, with a contract start date no later than that same date.
Without valid documentation, you're paid at the pendolare rate. If you end the rental early, you must notify the Ufficio Borse di Studio within 15 days — otherwise, if discovered during annual checks, the entire scholarship is revoked, not just reduced.
Independent students — those meeting the autonomous-student criteria and holding an onerous rental contract — are always classed fuori sede, regardless of their family's actual travel time to the university.
ISEE Requirements for UNIMI 2026/2027
To be considered in possession of the economic requirement, your ISEE Università 2026 must not exceed €26,887.93, and your ISPE must not exceed €58,452.06. Both limits must be respected jointly. The DSU must be signed by 30 September 2026 (or by 7 August 2026 if you're also applying for a posto alloggio) — UNIMI retrieves the ISEE value electronically from INPS, so you don't need to upload it yourself.
tips_and_updates Independent Student Status
To be assessed on your own income rather than your family's, you need both: residence outside your family home for at least two years, in accommodation not owned by a family member, and declared employment income of at least €9,000/year for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025 for this cycle). Students with a family unit abroad from the countries listed in Allegato 1 of the bando must submit foreign income/asset documentation directly through the online portal for a parified ISEE calculation; students from countries not listed are automatically assigned the 1st income bracket.
Academic Credit (CFU) Requirements
First-Year Students
Matricole are assigned beneficiary status provisionally based on income, and the merit requirement is verified ex post — a positive or negative result determines whether the benefit is confirmed, reduced, or revoked.

Note: only complete exams, internships, traineeships, Erasmus exams and validated linguistic credits count. Out-of-plan credits, supernumerary credits and partially validated credits never count toward the merit requirement. Students with disability (≥66% or L.104/92) are entirely exempt from ex-post revoca — they keep the benefit regardless.
Upper-Year Students
Students beyond the first year must have already earned, by 10 August 2026, the CFU set out in the bando's tables — e.g. 35 CFU (open access) or 35–88 CFU (limited access) for the second year of a laurea, rising to 245–269 CFU by the sixth year of a six-year laurea magistrale a ciclo unico. A bonus system (5 CFU for year 2, 12 for year 3, 15 for later years — each usable once and non-cumulable) can bridge small shortfalls. Ranking combines a credits score (max 600 points) and a weighted-average-grade score (max 400 points), for 1,000 points total.
UNIMI Free Catering Service
Free catering runs from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027 (excluding August), for idonei enrolled beyond the first year and for A.A. 2026/27 scholarship beneficiaries. Meals are accessed via the "Carta La Statale" university badge at any convenzionato dining point.

No refund is given for unused free meals, except for documented periods of study abroad. Students who graduate can request to keep the discounted (not free) rate through 31 December 2027, provided they continue, without interruption, to the next level of study.
UNIMI Scholarship 2026/2027: Payment Schedule
Payments are credited exclusively to the "Carta La Statale" university badge, activated as a "Flash Up Studio La Statale" prepaid card via Banca Intesa Sanpaolo. Students residing in Syria, Iran or North Korea can instead receive bank transfers, subject to providing a valid residence permit or ID copy.
