New MedTech Degree at Padua: Medicine Meets Engineering

Everything you need to know about Padua's new 2025/2026 degree program.

MedTech Padua Header

The University of Padua has recently introduced a new degree program titled Medicine and Surgery – MedTech.

At present, the course is still pending approval from the Italian Ministry of Education, and final confirmation regarding admission procedures and official details has not yet been announced.

Based on the available course description, the program is designed as a single-cycle Medicine and Surgery degree taught entirely in English, with classes expected to begin each October. Admission is planned to be based on a national entrance examination (subject to ministerial approval). The provisional intake numbers indicate 65 EU students and 15 non-EU students, though these figures are also awaiting final confirmation.

info
Padua vs. Venice

Padua already offers a Medicine and Surgery program in English, which has been relocated to Venice starting from the 2025–2026 academic year. The newly proposed Medicine and Surgery – MedTech program appears to be an additional offering rather than a replacement.

Currently, admission to the existing English-taught Medicine and Surgery program at Padua is based on the IMAT. However, the admission process for the MedTech program has not yet been officially defined. It may potentially be included within the IMAT framework, but this remains subject to approval by the Ministry.

Further updates are expected once the Ministry of Education issues its official authorization and clarifies the admission structure.

Artificial Intelligence & Digital Tech

As described in the official program material, students are trained to consciously use artificial intelligence, digital systems, and technological innovations in medical practice and research—while keeping patient care at the center.

This is medicine + engineering mindset.
