Siena IMAT 2026: Dentistry Admission Guide (LM-46)
Siena IMAT 2026 is the University of Siena's call for admission to its English-taught, single-cycle Master's degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics (Classe LM-46) for A.Y. 2026/2027. The admission test follows the same national structure used for English-medium medicine and dentistry programmes — 60 questions, the same subject breakdown and scoring — set under Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026. Here's everything the official bando (Allegato 1) says about Siena IMAT 2026: registration, test format, scoring, rankings and enrolment, on one page.

Siena IMAT 2026 overview
This guide covers the University of Siena's admission cycle for its English-taught, single-cycle Master's degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics — Ministerial class LM-46 — decided by a national-format entrance test. It's based on the University's own official bando (Allegato 1), "Bando di Ammissione al primo anno del Corso di Laurea Magistrale a Ciclo Unico in Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria in lingua inglese," for A.Y. 2026/2027.
The test itself follows the same structure used across English-medium medicine and dentistry admissions in Italy — 60 questions, the same subject breakdown, the same scoring system — set under Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026. It's prepared and scored centrally by CINECA.
This guide walks through the bando in plain English: who can apply, exactly what's due and when, how the test and rankings work, and what happens after you win a seat. It's a summary of the official Italian document — always cross-check anything decision-critical against your reserved area on Universitaly or the University of Siena's dedicated admissions page before you act on it.
Siena IMAT 2026: Programme & Seats
Siena offers a single English-taught programme through this call — Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics (LM-46). Seats are set by the Ministry of University and Research under Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026:
| Category | Seats |
|---|---|
| EU citizens and equivalent | 30 |
| Non-EU citizens residing abroad | 5 |
| Total | 35 |
35 seats is a small cohort compared to many Medicine programmes — worth factoring into how you weigh Siena against other IMAT-style options.
Who's Eligible for Siena IMAT 2026
Candidates need a secondary school diploma obtained in Italy, or a qualification obtained abroad after at least 12 years of schooling, plus English language proficiency at CEFR level B2. The University can exclude a candidate lacking these requirements at any time — even after enrollment — by reasoned decision. All requirements must be met by the application deadline: 9 September 2026, 15:00 CEST.
This is the part people get wrong: the 30-seat and 5-seat categories aren't simply "candidates in Italy" vs. "candidates abroad." Which category you fall into is defined by a separate university-wide document — the Manifesto annuale degli studi for students with foreign qualifications — referenced directly in Art. 4 of the bando. Several non-EU statuses count as EU-equivalent, even for candidates living outside Italy. Check the table below carefully before assuming which pool you're competing in.
30 seats: EU citizens and equivalent (comunitari / equiparati)
You fall into this pool if you are:
| Category | Who qualifies |
|---|---|
| EU citizens | Citizens of any EU member state, including dual citizens where at least one citizenship is Italian or another EU country |
| Equivalent to EU | Citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, San Marino, or the Holy See |
| Non-EU, EU-equivalent status (per Art. 39, comma 5, D.Lgs. 286/1998) | Non-EU citizens holding: an EU long-term residence permit; a residence permit for subordinate work, self-employment, family reasons, asylum, subsidiary protection, or religious reasons; or a permit issued under Art. 18 (social protection), 18-bis (victims of domestic violence), 20-bis (disaster relief), or 42-bis (acts of civil valour) of the Italian immigration code; or international protection status under Art. 32, comma 3, D.Lgs. 25/2008 |
| Non-EU, legally resident ≥1 year | Non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy for at least one year who hold an Italian secondary school diploma |
| Italian/international schools abroad | Holders of final diplomas from Italian schools abroad, or from foreign/international schools (in Italy or abroad) covered by bilateral agreements or special qualification-recognition rules — this applies wherever the candidate resides |
| Temporary protection | Non-EU citizens holding a temporary protection residence permit, where applicable under current regulations |
5 seats: Non-EU citizens residing abroad
You fall into this pool if you're a non-EU citizen who doesn't meet any of the EU-equivalent conditions above. If you need a visa to enter Italy, you must present a valid passport and entry visa at the test, or be excluded — see the special situations section below for the visa-registration steps.
Source: point 1.1 of the University of Siena's Manifesto annuale degli studi for students with foreign qualifications, as referenced in Art. 4 of the bando. If your situation is borderline (e.g. residence permit type, dual citizenship, or a foreign-school diploma), confirm your category directly with admissionoffice@unisi.it before registering — which pool you're placed in determines which 30 or 5 seats you compete for.

How to Register for Siena IMAT 2026
Registration happens entirely through the national Universitaly portal, available only from 26 August to 9 September 2026 (15:00 CEST).
-
1
Access Universitaly (www.universitaly.it) and register through the active procedure, providing your email address.
-
2
Declare any language certification listed in Annex 3 of Ministerial Decree No. 1005/2026, if you hold one.
-
3
Rank your preferred venues and courses in order. This is irrevocable after 9 September 2026, 15:00 CEST. If you sit the test in Italy, your first-preference venue automatically becomes your assigned test location — no changes are permitted. To sit the test abroad, you must choose a venue from Table A attached to the ministerial decree.
-
4
Pay the test participation fee through the method published on Universitaly. Payment isn't valid, and you won't be entitled to sit the test, unless it's accompanied by the online registration receipt — keep that receipt.
Watch for false declarations: any declaration made during the online procedure that doesn't match your actual situation results in exclusion from the final ranking. And after the deadline, no further registrations are accepted — there's no late window.
Siena IMAT 2026: Disability & DSA Arrangements
Candidates with disabilities or specific learning disorders (DSA), per Law 104/1992 and Law 170/2010, can request extra time and/or personalized support during registration, by attaching:
- A certificate of civil invalidity and/or Law 104/1992 certification from the competent medical commission, specifying the type of disability (and invalidity percentage, where applicable)
- DSA certification issued no more than 3 years ago (if before age 18), or issued after turning 18 by a local public health facility or accredited body
Extra time granted: up to 30% for DSA candidates, up to 50% for candidates with a disability or invalidity.
Candidates residing abroad must submit legalized documentation with a certified translation into Italian or English via Italian diplomatic representations. For complex situations, the University suggests requesting a consultation with the Settore Inclusione (orientarsi.unisi.it).
Support requests must be submitted by 15 September 2026 to: Settore Inclusione comunità studentesca — Via Banchi di Sotto, 55, 53100 Siena — tel. 0577/235412 — servizidsa@unisi.it / disabilita@unisi.it.

Siena IMAT 2026 Test-Day Rules
The test takes place on 29 September 2026, starts at 13:30 and lasts 100 minutes, at the Presidio San Niccolò, Via Roma 56, Siena, or at your approved foreign venue, with timing adjusted to local time zones. You need a valid ID document to enter — there's no entry without one, and none after the test booklets have been opened. For security reasons, bags, backpacks and other baggage can't be brought into the exam room; they must be left in designated areas.
During the test, you must:
- Use only the black pen supplied by the venue on your answer sheet
- Not communicate with other candidates, and not bring phones, tablets, smartwatches, earphones, webcams or similar devices, personal pens/stationery, textbooks, manuals, notes, blank paper or consultation material
- Fill in and sign your anagraphic (personal data) form, confirming it matches your identity when you submit your paper
- Mark your chosen answer with an X in the corresponding box
- Correct one and only one previously marked answer, by fully blacking out the old box and marking a new one clearly
- Use the small circle next to each question if you deliberately choose not to answer — once marked, this can't be undone; leaving both the boxes and the circle blank counts the question as simply unanswered
Test cancellation applies for:
- Sitting the test in a different room than assigned, without an authorized and minuted variation
- Bringing or using phones, tablets, smartwatches, earphones, webcams, manuals, textbooks, notes or consultation material in the exam room
- Any signature or identifying mark on the answer sheet (front or back) that could reveal a candidate's identity or a commission member's
- Interaction between candidates, or attempts at copying or exchanging any material, including anagraphic forms or answer sheets
- Using a pen, pencil or other writing tool during the sealing process to alter, add to, or correct the answer sheet
The Commission decides on any annulment. Candidates who don't show up on test day are automatically considered to have withdrawn — even in cases of force majeure.
Siena IMAT 2026 minimum scores & ranking
To appear in the ranking at all, your score has to clear a threshold:
- EU citizens and equivalent: ≥ 20 points
- Non-EU citizens residing abroad: > 0 points, provided at least one question was answered — candidates who don't answer a single question aren't included in the ranking at all
Enrolment is based on your ranking position, the seats allocated to the University, and the preferences you expressed at registration. Note: the bando reviewed for this guide doesn't spell out specific tie-break criteria for equal scores — if this matters to you, check your reserved Universitaly area or the national IMAT regulations for the applicable tie-break rules.
Enrolling and Scrolling After Siena IMAT 2026
Once the national ranking is published on 26 October 2026, every candidate is marked with one of three statuses:
- ASSIGNED (assegnato/a) — within the available seats for your top usable preference. You must enroll within the deadline, or forfeit your place, with no exceptions accepted
- RESERVED (prenotato/a) — not placed at your top preference but reserved for a later one. You can enroll now, or wait for a better preference to open up in a later scroll. Enrolling in your reserved seat automatically cancels all your other preferences
- WAITING (in attesa) — eligible, but not currently included in any available seat; wait for a subsequent scroll
Both ASSIGNED and RESERVED candidates have a maximum of 4 days to enroll from each scroll's publication (including the publication day, excluding Saturdays and holidays). Within 5 days of each scroll (by 12:00 on day 5, excluding Saturdays/holidays), the University reports newly enrolled students to CINECA. In that same window, everyone still in the ranking (except those already enrolled, withdrawn, or in "posti esauriti" status) must actively confirm their interest in staying in the ranking via the Universitaly reserved area — or be automatically excluded. No justification for a missed confirmation is accepted, though the task can be delegated to someone you trust. Exclusions can be appealed to the TAR Lazio within 60 days, or to the President of the Republic within 120 days.
The next scroll after the first is published 3 November 2026; subsequent scrolls repeat the same 4-day/5-day cycle.

Siena IMAT 2026 FAQ
It's not just about where you live. Besides EU citizens, several non-EU statuses count as EU-equivalent — long-term EU residence permits, certain work/family/asylum permits, one year+ legal residence in Italy with an Italian diploma, and diplomas from Italian or bilateral-agreement schools abroad regardless of where you live. See the eligibility table above, and confirm with admissionoffice@unisi.it if you're unsure, since it determines whether you compete for the 30 or the 5 seats.
The test is on 29 September 2026 at 13:30, lasting 100 minutes, at the Presidio San Niccolò, Via Roma 56, Siena, or at your chosen foreign venue, adjusted for local time zones.
Registration runs on Universitaly from 26 August to 9 September 2026 at 15:00 CEST, and is irrevocable after that. You rank your preferred venues and courses in order of preference, declare any language certificate you hold, and pay the participation fee.
35 total seats: 30 reserved for EU citizens and equivalent, and 5 reserved for non-EU citizens residing abroad.
EU and equivalent candidates need a minimum score of 20 points. This threshold does not apply to non-EU candidates residing abroad, who are eligible with any score above 0, provided they answered at least one question.
60 multiple-choice questions across biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension and general knowledge, in 100 minutes. You get +1.5 points per correct answer, 0 per omitted answer, and −0.4 per incorrect answer, for a maximum of 90 points.
