The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has officially released the details regarding the IMAT 2025 exam and registration process on 8 August 2025. Below, we summarize the most important information for all candidates planning to sit the IMAT 2025.
According to the announcement by MUR, registration for IMAT 2025 will open on 26 August 2025 and will close on 9 September 2025 at 15:00 (GMT +2). The exact time the registration opens on 26 August has not been specified, so candidates are advised to regularly check the Universitaly portal throughout the day. IMAT registration will take place through the Universitaly portal. We recommend that students create an account in advance if they don’t already have one.
IMAT 2025 Available Seats for Medicine And Surgery
For IMAT 2025, Italian public universities are offering 952 seats for EU students and 530 seats for Non-EU students, plus an additional 150 Non-EU seats at Tor Vergata’s Albania campus.

- Catania offers 0 EU seats and 60 Non-EU seats.
- Bologna (Medicine) increased EU seats from 97 to 130.
- Federico II (Medicine) raised EU seats from 15 to 25 and Non-EU seats from 25 to 45.
- Tor Vergata (Medicine) grew EU seats from 40 to 60 and Non-EU seats from 15 to 20. Also adding 150 seats in Albania.
- For IMAT 2025, universities such as Pavia (5 seats) and Turin (2 seats) offer the Marco Polo programme places reserved for Chinese students.
- Some Italian universities reserve a small number of Non‑EU seats specifically for Chinese students under the Marco Polo programme.

In 2025, Italian universities such as Siena and Sapienza will offer 52 EU dentistry seats and 8 Non-EU seats, with the sharp Non-EU reduction mainly due to Siena cutting about 10 seats.
